About The Job

This job is for you if:

Tests and inspects products at various stages of production process with different types of measuring devices and equipment. Compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties:

Here’s what an ordinary day of work might look like (formerly responsibilities)

  • Routinely inspect all production operations.
  • Reads and Interprets blueprints or engineering specifications to obtain product information such as specified material, surface finish, and dimensions.
  • Verify that production operator is performing and documenting their inspections.
  • Selects products for testing at specified stages in production process, and test products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, and mechanical characteristics.
  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures when required.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Performs first piece inspection and testing varication on materials, parts, or products to ensure product meets specifications.
  • Prepares graphs or charts of data or enters data into computer for analysis.
  • Proposes improvements to the inspection, production process or safety aspects in the appropriate area.
  • Updates job knowledge by engaging in educational opportunities and regular training.
  • Ensure measurement equipment is operating accurately by following calibration requirements and calling for repairs.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Education level.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience.

One to three years of experience is preferred

  • Specific skills.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Proficient with Calipers, Micrometer and other types of measuring equipment.

  • Personal characteristics.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of employees of organization.

  • Certifications.

ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) is preferred but not required.

  • Licenses.

  • Physical abilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to sit; use hands and fingers to feel; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
